Elk Scouting Report
On a recent scouting mission, we ran into this group of elk in our GMU. Apparently, there was plenty of moisture over the spring and summer months. The habitat looked great for elk. After stepping out of my truck, we began to hear bugling within about 2 minutes and started walking towards the direction of the calls. Within about 15 minutes of walking through the woods, we found the herd which was being led by this nice six point bull.
There were also several other satellite bulls nearby that were bugling, which really seemed to make this big guy mad. He was strutting around and barely even took notice of us about 100 yards away. He was constantly thrashing any of the vegetation around him in order to assert his dominance over the surrounding bulls who appeared to be moving closer to his herd. Hopefully he is still up there during third season.
